In this fourth installment, we will introduce the uses of vent membranes in headlights.
Headlights can sometimes be problematic due to fogging and condensation.
By using C-Porous™ as a vent membrane, it is possible to reduce the risk of fogging and condensation while maintaining waterproofing and dustproofing.
In headlights, the air inside expands and contracts due to temperature changes, allowing outside air (moisture) to enter and exit. At this time, condensation and fogging occur inside due to the difference in temperature with the outside air.
With the recent shift to LED lighting, there's a tendency for the lens surface to heat up slowly, making condensation difficult to dissipate, which further exacerbates this problem.
Headlights constantly experience temperature changes while driving due to factors such as temperature differences between day and night and switching them on and off. As a result, the air inside the light unit repeatedly expands and contracts, and the light maintains its internal state by "breathing."
Therefore, the light's casing must have a function that allows for smooth intake and exhaust of outside air, minimizing the pressure difference between the inside and outside.
However, simply drilling holes would allow rainwater and dust to enter. This is where a special technique is needed to "allow air to pass through but prevent water and foreign matter from entering."
C-Porous™ leverages its properties of allowing air to pass through but blocking water, simultaneously achieving the following benefits:

•Reduces load on sealing components

Furthermore, it possesses heat resistance, chemical resistance, and Weatherability derived from PTFE, ensuring stability even in harsh automotive environments.
C-Porous™ Porous Films "SEF-010-03" and "SEF-503M"
Its micro-pores provide air permeability and moisture permeability while also offering waterproof, water-repellent, and oil-repellent properties. It maintains waterproof and dustproof performance by regulating the differential pressure inside the headlight. Die-cutting and sealing are also possible.
